I remember the first day I went to a Prenatal Chiropractor at 41 Weeks & 1 Day. It was my first pregnancy and we had tried everything! I was desperate to have the baby out and someone suggested visiting a prenatal chiropractor to get an adjustment and some acupressure done.
As apprehensive as I was, I still went ahead but still wondered how in hell is this going to help me go into labor? And to top it off I got to pay $100?! My husband encouraged me and we did it. Little did I know 2 days later along with Cervidel, that’s what set my labor off!
I have been through Prenatal Chiropractic Care for both my last pregnancies. And I have seen immense benefits from relieving my back pain, easier recoveries (I had C-sections after very long traumatic labors) and also helping me go into labor naturally for my last. If I had all the money in the world, I would be at a Chiropractor every week, but it’s not cheap.
If you are pregnant, trying for a natural birth (especially a VBAC), please join me in reading about what my lovely Guest Poster has to say. Jane was my Prenatal Chiropractor for my last pregnancy and she was amazing.
She not only helped my back, she helped me deal with trauma I never knew I had. There’s something so soothing about being around her, I would recommend her in a heartbeat if you are in Southern California.

Most of us remember our first symptom of pregnancy. It might have been tender breasts, a late period, fatigue or nausea. For me, it was low back pain. Yup, that’s right.
As a chiropractic student, I was sitting for at least 8 hours a day. Then when that pesky hormone, Relaxin, kicked in (it does a great job at relaxing all your joints to prep for birth), my low back became my weak area.
From that point on, I made it a priority to stick to my chiropractic care throughout my pregnancy. I was amazed by the ease of my pregnancy and birth, and felt it was my duty to share this with mothers so they, too can experience the best possible pregnancy and transition into motherhood.
Why is it Important for Women to Get Prenatal Chiropractic Care during Pregnancy?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Just look at the change your spine goes through from 12-40 weeks. Your spine is the foundation of your posture and health. With the short amount of time that this change takes place, your body has a hard time adapting.
Chiropractic care helps your body adapt to the change and maintain a strong posture. It is also very beneficial for babe to receive neurological input from the adjustments. Just as every step you take, the adjustment provides stimulus to your unborn child and actually helps develop their brain and nervous system.
What Symptoms Can Prenatal Chiropractic Care Help With?
First and foremost, it will help mommas get out of pain. When we feel less pain, we have more energy to participate in activities that we love like walking, hiking, swimming or playing with older children.
Aligning the pelvis will also make sure there is enough space for babe to develop properly and be in the best positioning for birth. Last but not least, moms who received care during their 2nd, 3rd, etc pregnancy, tell me that they recovered faster from either a vaginal or cesarean birth.
How Can it Assist Moms During Labor and Birth?
There are some chiropractors who will also provide care during labor and birth. This is a beautiful opportunity for mothers to receive support during this sacred time. Since all your joints are so relaxed to help babe come out, it is easier for things to move in the wrong position too.
Being adjusted during labor may assist in helping labor progress and help babe get into the best position to come earth side.
What are the Different Techniques & that adjusts Pregnant Women?
There are hundreds of different techniques within chiropractic care. Pregnant mommas, please look for a chiropractor who is Webster Certified.
